the quality that renders something desireable, useful, worthwhile

Remex Consulting continually strive to bring value to our clients. We do not delimit the market of potential clients by our perception of the quantity of revenue that they might give us. We seek to do business with clients to whom we can offer intelligent information and communication technology advice and who can identify the intelligence and value in that advice.

Over two decades we have served clients with as many as 1,500 computers and/or over many disparate locations. And we serve clients with as few as two or three computers in a single location.

Through finance providers, we are also able to assist our clients with various finance options.

Enterprise-level Solutions

The biggest challenge that larger organisations face, in respect of information and communication technology, is that each decision taken can have significant impact (operational and consequently financial) on the organisation. Operationally, often the biggest challenge is retaining a level of agility and so to be able to react appropriately to challenges and opportunities as they present themselves.

In each of our areas of expertise, Remex can help to ensure that each decision taken is the right decision.

Through our results-driven implementation philosophy, which is based largely on a paper authored by RG Fichman and SA Moses and published in the MIT Sloan Management Review (1999) 40(2), we are able to define, design and manage projects that deliver measurable results.

Fichman’s & Moses’ paper was written in relation to software implementations. But the methodology described has application to all areas of technology, not just information technology and certainly not just software. It focuses attention on business results, rather than technical objectives. It is this differentiation that is crucial in larger organisations, in particular, where the team that delivers the technology may well otherwise be focused on the technology. For clarity, of course technologists need to be focussed on technology, but they (or someone) must understand and embrace the notion that the technology is there for a business purpose.

The paper describes five key principles (these are directly quoted from the paper):

1) Use targeted business results to drive decision making throughout the implementation process;
2) Divide the implementation into a series of non-overlapping increments, each of which enables measurable business improvements even if no further increments are implemented;
3) Ensure each increment implements everything required to produce desired results, i.e., software functionality and complementary changes to organizational policies, processes, structures and measures;
4) Size the increments so that each can be implemented in a short time (ideally three months or less);
5) Use the results of each increment as a basis to flesh out and adjust the plan for subsequent increments.

Remex have been helping our clients to understand and utilise results-driven technology implementation for more than two decades.

Medium-size Business Solutions

It doesn’t matter the size of your business. You could be employing 1,000+ people or you could be a small operation of just a couple of people. It may even be “just you” at the moment. The fact is that information and communication technology probably does, and increasingly will, play an important part in your success.

The fact is, IT matters.

For small to medium-sized businesses, it matters a lot! Why? Because it’s far too easy to spend far too much on “stuff” that is just not right for you. Many times we have seen funds spent trying to integrate in to a system something that should never have been purchased in the first instance.

In order to avoid such circumstances, Remex help our clients to develop an information and communication technology plan against which decisions can be measured. Key to the development of the plan is an understanding of “where are we now” and “where do we want to be”. Key to the success of the plan is to use a results-driven incremental approach to implementation, that facilitates the staged delivery of real benefit. This approach is, in our experience, the best way to ensure our clients have the flexibility in their technology and their finance to evolve their plans with their evolving business (or with the opportunities that evolving technology may present).

Remex also help our clients to evaluate opportunities to help ensure that the investment can be measured. Whether this relates to cyclical replacement of base line equipment (life-cycle planning) or evaluating the value in a new system (return on investment), we are able to identify the relationship between the technology and your business to ensure the use of intelligent information technology.

Remex have many small to medium-sized business clients. And we’d be happy to help you too. We seek to do business with clients to whom we can offer intelligent information and communication technology advice and who can identify the intelligence and value in that advice.

Small Office & Home Office Solutions

It doesn’t matter the size of your business. You could be employing 1,000+ people or you could be a small operation of just a couple of people. It may even be “just you” at the moment. The fact is that information and communication technology probably does, and increasingly will, play an important part in your success.

The fact is, IT matters. Just because it matters, though, does not necessarily mean that “you need to spend lots of money”. In fact, most of our smaller-sized clients find value in our advice because we help them to save time and to save money.

Remex have several very small clients. And we’d be happy to help you too. We seek to do business with clients to whom we can offer intelligent information and communication technology advice and who can identify the intelligence and value in that advice.

Finance Solutions

Remex Consulting continually strive to bring value to our clients. One way that we add value is to help our clients to finance a project or an acquisition.

This may be as simple as agreeing to payment terms, or extended payment terms. Or it may be by helping our clients to secure a commercial agreement with a financier.

Remex’s finance partner offers three types of finance: capital lease, positional operating lease and non-positional operating lease; each with their own idiosyncrasies. One of these, or a combination of several of these, will be right for your business and, typically, the finance rates are very, very competitive.

Capital Lease

A capital lease, or finance lease, is a commercial arrangement where:

you choose an asset that you wish to purchase, the financier purchases it on your behalf
the asset is listed on the balance sheet of, and depreciated by, the financier
you make repayments, the interest component of which is expensed on your profit and loss
at the end of the lease, you payout the residual amount, at which time you take ownership of the asset

Positional Operating Lease

A positional operating lease, or rental, is a commercial arrangement where:

you choose an item that you wish to purchase, the financier purchases it on your behalf
the asset is listed on the balance sheet of, and depreciated by, the financier
you make rental payments, all of which are expensed on your profit and loss
at the end of the lease, you have the option to return the item to the financier, negotiate a new lease or to purchase the item at the price (the “position”) offered by the financier

Non-positional Operating Lease

A non-positional operating lease is a commercial arrangement where:

you choose an item that you wish to purchase, the financier purchases it on your behalf
the asset is listed on the balance sheet of, and depreciated by, the financier
you make rental payments, all of which are expensed on your profit and loss
at the end of the lease, you take ownership of the item as a fully depreciated asset
